1. Love this!
How many small groups do you see/day? Do students complete one i-Ready lesson and 1 xtra Math session per day?

    1. Hello Jackie! I’m in math intervention and coaching now but when I used this in my classroom I saw about two groups per day. The students completed one of each computer session (we don’t use XtraMath anymore so I would just be completing one lesson on iReady instead). Thanks for reading!!

  2. What does your entire math block look like? Do you do direct instruction to introduce new concept? Do you do these every day?

    1. Hi Kim!

Yes, we always have a mini-lesson to introduce a new strategy/concept…then we go through the rotations. Please feel free to contact me if you’d like a more detailed breakdown of our block. Thanks so much for reading!

  3. Hi there! I love this post so much and it has been really helpful as I am trying to rework how we do math rotations in my 4th grade classroom. How do you release your students after the mini lesson? How do they know which rotation to work on first ? I have a feeling my students would rush to the more “fun” activity first and get frustrated if someone else beat them to it. Do you have any tips for what you do? Thank you!

    1. Hi Madison!

Thanks for the lovely message! All students work on the independent assignments first (unless they are in math group) after the mini-lesson. They have pencil and paper tasks to complete, as well as a computer assignment (we use iReady these days). So more of a must-do, may-do format…they must complete their independent work before working on more hands-on activities. I hope this helps, please let me know if I can explain more!
