Have you tried math rotations in the past, only to find they weren’t really working for your class? Have you been troubled to find some students moved too quickly through the rotations, while others needed more time to finish? Have you felt a bit frenzied with the time limitations?
I have tried math rotations SO many times over the years, only to be left with a hectic, rushed feeling—and a sinking sensation as I asked myself: why doesn’t this work for my teaching style?
Then I realized the answer.
The time was too regimented—I wanted a more natural flow for my students. I wanted them to move on when they were ready. So I scrapped the idea of timed rotations and started a different model where my students would take ownership of their rotations: Math TIME or (MATH time)!

What’s different about these rotations?
This resource was designed for students to manage their own learning.
Instead of rotating through pre-assigned groups systematically every day, students can be given daily tasks, as well as work that is due by the end of the week. Students move from task to task as they complete their work, not in a set time period.
How does this help me as the teacher?
The setup of these rotations is as easy as 1, 2, 3!
1. Write the assignments of your choice on the rotation board.
2. Use the icons to select due dates for each rotation (“due today” or “due Friday”) as well as how many students can work together on an activity.
3. Watch as your students work through the rotations at their pace, choosing which assignments to work on and taking ownership of their learning.
