Getting rid of a gray box on your blog!

April 6, 2011

You know, the one that shows up when you click your labels: “Showing newest posts with label…Show older posts”.

Since I’m always trying to find ways to make my blog look more website-y, I had to remove it!

Plus, this is something I don’t want on my class blog, since I like it to be clear-cut and easy to read for my ELL students. When they click on the “Science Fair” label for example, that post is the first thing I’d like them to see.

Luckily, removing it is a cinch! I learned all about it in this tutorial: The Real Blogger Status.

I used the code described in “Try 1” of the tutorial (shown to the left).

To find this code in your blog…

1. Head into the “Edit HTML” tab of your blog (under Design).

2. Click the box next to “Expand Widget Templates”.

3. Then, using your computer’s Find function (Command+F on a Mac), you can enter the code below and find it in the HTML:

4. Next, you will need to remove all of the code including this code (to the right):

(That’s 13 lines of code).

IMPORTANT! If you are worried about your template and the wrong code being removed, you can always Preview it first, before saving. Then, if everything looks good, you should be all set!

I hope this is of help!

Just wanted to share a post that I thought would be more fitting coming from you, (you are GREAT at sharing your technology tips and finds) but went through with sharing it on my blog for the time being. If you want to take it over, I'd love that with just a simple shout back! I have a different vision for my blog but wanted to share my find with the teacher blogging world 😉 and I'm not quite an official member of the TBA blog yet otherwise I'd post it there! Let me know if that interests you!
