Classroom Shopping Linky Party!

June 29, 2011
This linky party is devoted to the die-hard teacher-shoppers. The ones who leave the house on supposed “normal” shopping trips. You know, food for the family, basic supplies for the household.
But we all know our secret. We are teacher-shoppers. And we represent a unique group of consumers.
Only the truly skilled (i.e. teachers) can achieve our form of shopping. It involves distracting loved ones (“do you want to check out the ___ section while I look here?”). It involves (at-times) embarrassing situations, especially for family members (“They don’t have 25 of them!” or “It doesn’t come in blue!!”). You know what I mean. I hope.
Because you are the ones who manage to find treasured items for your classrooms in the cheapest stores in your town. You are the ones brave enough to dig through an entire bin of items to be sure the one thing you are looking for is not hidden at the bottom. You are the ones flagging down tired employees, imploring them to check the stock out back. You cannot be stopped. You are a force to be reckoned with. No typical shopper is safe in your path.
This linky party is in honor of all of you bold shoppers. We must come together to share our loot. Whether they are items to decorate your classroom, supplies for your students, new books for your classroom library, that undeniably cute and necessary stuff from the cheap bins in Target–you must share it here!

If u haven't been in target lately they have their back to school stuff trickling in!!!

  • Erica Briley June 29, 2011 at 2:11 am

Target also had the "shoe box" size plastic containers with colored lids for 5 for $5 2 weeks ago. In the tupperware section. I also find neat things in the kitchen know it sounds crazy but it works! Some of my colleagues ask where in the world do I get these ideas..I tell them too many hours down EVERY aisle at WalMart or DollarTree!!!

I didn't mean to name my link, Pam. How can I fix it?

  • loularkin June 29, 2011 at 3:00 am

My poor kids! I read this to them and they are shocked. They thought I was the only one.

See I have been doing too much bloghopping, and not enough shopping …A little Retail Therapy does a soul good (we won't discuss the wallet) Thanks for doing this…I for see shopping in my future!

  • Kate Boyer June 29, 2011 at 3:42 am

Oh I'm so sad!! Our Target and Dollar Tree haven't started putting this stuff out yet. I check it at least twice a week. 🙂 Hopefully soon though! I can't wait!

  • Lindsey W June 29, 2011 at 3:59 am

I feel like we need to start a Target and Dollar Store Teacher Shoppers Anonymous group! So glad I'm not alone. Why did I drive to Target the other day instead of Giant? To buy paper plates and pita bread of course…. plus to check the dollar bins for supplies. Shockingly I only walked out with 4 mini clip boards for my read the room center and spent less than $15. My target restocks on Tuesdays so you know where I go every week 🙂 I'll link up when I give in and buy more baskets adn things I don't need. Now why doesn't Lakeshore have a dollar deals 🙂

This made me laugh so hard haha, it's sooo true and funny how everything you come across could potentially be used in your classroom, my husband has even gotten used to the fact that sometimes furniture will disappear from our home, to later be found in my classroom … love the linky party I'll have to find some pics and try to link up 🙂

Oh, my! Today I returned over $100 worth of stuff at Office Max, pulled out of the parking lot and parked by the curb, realizing I could cross the street and "browse" the $1 section at Target. Nearly $40 later I had 18 packages of mini-magnetic erasers (2 to a package, I need to see if they're for white boards). i also scored mini-white board markers (3 to a package). Someone save me!!! I've only been on vacation two days.
P.S. Target is so sneaky. Their products changed twice in three days. Two trips equals me heading to the poor house.

Oh – I can't resist looking at all the goodies, but it saddens me since I have NO Target to shop at!!!! Target has been my favorite store forever, but now I live in Hawaii (I know – play me a sad song) and while there is finally a Target on Oahu, I have since moved to Maui where there is still none. And extra boo because Target won't ship to Hawaii.
But I shop vicariously through you all! Enjoy!

Thanks for hosting! I'm usually on the craft blogging circuit but am branching out into the education blogging world so I can share stuff from my classroom.

    Have a wonderful evening!

    I feel so understood here!

  • Tina July 1, 2011 at 3:32 pm

Hey Walmart and Staples are now doing $1 stuff so be on the look out! I bought lots of basic supplies that I had trouble finding last year really cheap. For example the plastic brad pocket folders which I use for homework folders.

  • Chrissy July 1, 2011 at 6:41 pm

I need to make another pot of coffee and blog hop through these links! Thanks, Kristen 🙂

I had no idea the disease had a name. All this time I thought I was just a "shop-a-holic!"

  • Kristen July 2, 2011 at 1:29 pm

    Thanks for tip Tina!

Thank you all for stopping by!

  • Eilis July 7, 2011 at 2:19 am

I got the dotted number stamps at Target today. Now I am really happy…until I see something else on this linky that I haven't found yet 🙂

  • Amy July 7, 2011 at 9:52 pm

Oh my gosh…you outed me! But now my husband knows all those trips I sent him on for certain numbers and colors were happening to other family members of teachers too!!!

    • Do you and your colleagues use a team drive in school?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀My teammate set one up for us last year and it is the best! We can store all of our standards, assessments, field trip forms, lesson many things to keep us all on track.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀The only part I don’t love?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀There’s no option to color code folders the way you can in your personal google drive.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀But...there is a different way to make the folders stand out and easy to find! I just added an emoji to each one to make everything a little more visual.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀It’s really easy to do and it adds a little pop of color to make those gray folders easier to navigate! I put the link to an emoji site in my profile, in case you’d like to try this on your computer (⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀#googledrive #classroommanagement #iteachfourth #iteach4th #teachersfollowteachers #teachersofinstagram
    • Sharing some google fonts that would make awesome titles for different units!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀The name for each font is in parentheses. To add the fonts to your docs and slides go to font, choose “more fonts...”, type in the name of the font you would like, select it, and then click ok!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Would you like to find more fun google fonts? If you go to the google fonts site you can search over 900 different fonts for your drive! I added the link to the site in my profile if you’d like to try it out (⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀What are your favorite fonts for titles in google? Mine is Oswald Bold!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀#googlefonts #googledrive #technologyintheclassroom #iteachfourth #iteach4th #teachersfollowteachers #teachersofinstagram
    • Using Google Slides for field trip groups this week!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀This is was one of those 🤦‍♀️ moments for me this year.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀In the past, I would ALWAYS fly into work on the day of a field trip and frantically write chaperone names and student groups on the whiteboard...while thinking of all the other things I had to do that morning before we left. Very stressful.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀This year, I started setting up a Google slide with my chaperone names and student groups the night before. I just add a little photo of our destination for interest, then make squares for “sticky notes” with all of the group information.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀This saves so much time on the morning of the field trip...I just turn on the tv and display the slide for my students (and parents!) as they come into class. It frees me up for other last minute details I need to do before we leave...and it spares my chaperones from my awful writing on the board!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Slightly related: the second pic is our destination this week and it is usually a blast to see my city kids in the forest!! But it’s supposed to be 36 degrees and raining that day, uggghhhhh.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀How do you like to organize your field trips? Do you have any tips we can learn from you?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀#classroommanagement #classroomorganization #googleslides #googledrive #iteachfourth #iteach4th #iteach456 #teachersfollowteachers #teachersofinstagram
    • Mother’s Day trinket trays!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀This was such a fun and easy project! I found several tutorials on Pinterest for this craft. We used mason jar lids (two for each student...and they could make them for anyone they would like to celebrate: mothers, grandmothers, aunts, fathers).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀We painted the outer and inner rims of the lids. Then we traced a template and cut out circles of scrapbook paper to place inside the bottom of the mason jar lid.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀SO easy and my students were really proud of their gifts for their families!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Please swipe if you’d like to see more of their designs...⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀#mothersdaycraft #iteachfourth #iteach4th #iteach456 #teachersfollowteachers #teachersofinstagram
    • The best thing I have done for myself this school year?Well, it’s really thanks to my sister @fashioncrazelearningdays. We were on spring break and she suggested deleting our gmail apps on our phones, so we wouldn’t be tempted to check work email while on vacation. And I felt so free!! I mean, I feel like I am CONSTANTLY checking my work line at the grocery store, waiting for dinner to finish cooking, right before I go to sleep (never good to do that).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀So even though I’m back from break, I’ve left my app off of my phone. I check my email frequently at school and throughout the evening when I work on my computer. But it’s such a relief to know when I power off my laptop, the email checking is done for the day too.It helps wrap up a work day that could truly never end...and I know you all know what I mean!!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Is this something you already do? Do you have any ways you like to make the job have an ending each day? Please share with us!#teacherselfcare #iteachfourth #iteach4th #iteach456 #teachersfollowteachers #teachersofinstagram
    • Google Drive shortcuts!!! Ok, this one is really awesome. So it turns out there are a ton of shortcuts to save you time when navigating through your docs! If you click on a doc in your Drive, then use one of the keyboard shortcuts, it will get you moving, creating, and sharing even faster! Here are a few examples:You can click enter or o to open your doc, p to preview it before opening, . to share, and n to rename!! (These are my faves!). To access all of the shortcuts, head to the gear at the top right hand side of your Drive. Then choose “keyboard shortcuts” and you can see all the keys you can use to save time! What’s your favorite Google Drive shortcut?#google #googledrive #technologyintheclassroom #iteachfourth #iteach4th #iteach456 #teachersfollowteachers #teachersofinstagram
